You can now instantly translate text just by using your smartphone's camera to look at it.

Google has updated its Translate app to let users decipher foreign signs or resturant menus, even without an internet connection.
According to Google spokesman Barak Turovsky, 'Point your camera and you'll see the translated text overlaid on your screen'.

The update works for english, french, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish- with more languages to be added. Users can already get translations of 36 languages by taking a photo, but an internet or data connection is required.
