We must learn from the mistakes of the past come 2019

Like all Generals , Politicians are always remembered for their surprises. There are now conflicting reports about President Buhari's bid for re-election come 2019. The truth is that  whats really on his mind is nothing but power. You don't need a PhD in Political Science to know that that the man is not a good fit for 21st century democratic leadership especially in a heterogeneous society like Nigeria.

2015 elections should be a good lesson to Nigerians not to give in to deceit , unnecessary fear and propaganda in the future. He didn't get the job through hardwork or any gift of intellect, Gowon said he took the presidency like a combatant.

The leadership is very ignorant of democratic governance. His ability to serve is now diminished, due to recurrent health issues and old-age. I don't think it would be a good choice to gamble him further. He has to first release his medical report to attest to the fact that he is still mentally alert. When in doubt, get it out. We are yet to see his school certificate, etc.

The country still suffering from the crude and barbaric policies he has put in place including the 'herdsmen'. and free speech constraint, etc. I learnt they're  currently deploying soldiers to South-East instead of sending them to the North-East to intensify the fight against Boko-Haram. They are still using conquering techniques to diminish certain parts of the country even in 2017, what a country!.

The worst thing a politician can do is to promise something he cannot deliver. We are still waiting for the restructuring that he promised us in 2015. We are anxiously waiting for the ruling party's session on restructuring. You cannot fool the people all the time, even in 2017.

This is a dispensation with the most divisive policies and a stubborn resistance to change. A young democracy crunched to a standstill by one man's ego and divisive political ideology.

According to Ronald Reagan;  Now what should happen when you make a mistake is this: "You take your knocks, you learn your lessons, and then you move on".

The country has got 'dozens of appealing, able, educated and engaging men and women with experience, knowledge of and concern for social issues and homegrown devotion to the people', willing to drive inclusive democracy.

My heart and best intentions still tell me that the President  is  very unfit for a 21st century  democratic governance given abundant evidence.

2019 elections is another opportunity to learn from our collective mistakes and reject politicians of a by-gone political era, given the challenges of the 21st century.  What's really on their mind is nothing but power !
